The CATENATE extension enables an IMAP client to store a new message in a mailbox by combining new text and pieces of existing messages. Its primary purpose is to forward large attachments without downloading and then uploading them: The client uploads a new message consisting of some new text and a reference to the attachment, and then sends that new message using SMTP/BURL.
CATENATE is mostly supported by mobile email readers. It is part of the LEMONADE group of extensions.
